An electron source is mandatory for the QLEDS project because of two reasons: First, protons will be generated by electrons hitting a polyethylene target, and second, (anti-)protons will be precooled using electrons. This source is called electron gun.
Using the simulation results from a recent Bachelor’s thesis* the device must be built, setup and tested in a cryogenic environment and in a high magnetic field. Afterwards, the electron gun shall be commissioned in the Penning trap system of the QLEDS project.
