Squeezed vacuum improves an atomic clock

A mean of only 0.75 atoms has fundamentally improved the sensitivity of 10,000 atoms in a new type of atom interferometer.

Quadrature squeezing is a very successful method to improve the sensitivity of light interferometers. Most prominently, it is used for gravitational wave detection. We demonstrate the first application of quadrature squeezed vacuum for an atom interferometer.
