First Bose-Einstein condensation in space

On the 23rd of January 2017 we demonstrated the first Bose-Einstein condensation in space on board the sounding rocket mission MAIUS-1. The results about the phase transition and the control on the motion of the BEC using our atom chip have now been published in the journal Nature. Our results provide insights into conducting cold-atom experiments in space and pave the way to miniaturizing cold-atom concepts for satellite-based implementation.
