LASUS

Within the QUANTUS cooperation, the LASUS project focuses on the development of miniaturized high performance diode laser systems and their support equipment to enable atom optical experiments in microgravity environments like drop towers (ZARM) and sounding rockets. To operate in those environments the experiments need to be very robust to survive strong forces and high vibrations combined with very limited volume, mass and electrical power and a high level of automation.

For this project the FBH (Ferdinand-Braun-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik) and the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin will develop narrow linewidth DFB laser diodes and highly integrated external cavity diode lasers in microbench format. The Universität Hamburg will add miniaturized spectroscopy modules to the lasers. The focus of the IQO for the LASUS project is the development of compact, high performance, computer controlled electronics to control the lasers.
