surface functionalization by laser ablation
An universal structuring technique – ablation by ultra-short pulsed laser irradiation – can be applied for surface functionalization. Various surface structures: geometrically defined with resolution down to 1 µm as well as quasi periodical structures with dimensions smaller as laser beam diameter can be generated by this means.
A particular application of this technique is functionalization of medical implants. By using of specific surface structures adhesion of tissue cells as well ass bacterial adhesion can be influenced in a target way.
