Welcome to the Ultrafast Laser Laboratory - Uwe Morgner
The investigation of ultrafast processes in nature requires the preparation of tailored light pulses with durations much shorter than the inherent dynamics of the process under test. Our group is pursuing high-level research on pulsed lasers and their applications in many different areas of science. Our expertise in laser physics spans from the shortest pulses with single cycle durations via high repetition rate high-energy sources to terawatt peak powers.
Our laser application research addresses fundamental questions regarding light-matter interaction as well as micro machining or bio imaging. The experimental work requires a thorough understanding of the underlying physics. This is subject of the ‘virtual lab’, where theory and simulation disclose the deeper insight into the ultrafast phenomena of nature.

Our paper concerning a suitable definition for characterization of coherence properties in view of carrier-envelope phase stabilization has been published in Physical Review Letters .
August 2017: Physics at Leibniz Universität Hannover
Our group and our lecture "Computational Photonics" is appearing in the Video for international physics students in Hannover.
May 2017: BMBF-Project THG layer has started
Subject is the efficient generation of the third harmonic of pulsed lasers in dielectric layer structures. „THG layer“ is funded by the German ministry of science and education (BMBF). The partners are IQ, LZH, and the University of Albuquerque in New Mexico.

July 2016: Start of: Beamline instrument development for the FLASH ll free electron laser
In this project we are building a permanently operating High-Harmonic laser source which will be coupled to the newly installed FLASH II beamline at DESY in Hamburg.
